Arizona Cinco De Mayo DUI Arrests Decreased
Cinco De Mayo is one of the biggest drinking days of the year. In an attempt to curb drunk driving, Arizona implemented a “Drive Hammered Get Nailed” campaign. This campaign resulted in a greater police presence on holiday weekends, which included several checkpoints. Expecting to arrest countless drunk drivers, Arizona set up DUI checkpoints throughout Maricopa County. The good news, DUI arrests were down considerably compared to 2013. Out of the 1,500 stops purported over the weekend, less than 100 resulted in an actual DUI arrest.
It is important for people to remember, if you are going to drink, do not drive. I attended a DUI seminar several years ago and received some great advice from one of the speakers. His advice was, if you have to think about whether or not you should be driving, you shouldn’t be driving. Everyone has experienced this situation when you get ready to leave the restaurant and bar and think to yourself, “I’ve only had two beers, I’m probably okay to drive” or “I’ve had a few beers but I’ve had a big meal so I’m fine.” If you have to think about whether you’re fine to drive, don’t drive. The only sure fire way to prevent a drunk driving arrest is to not drink at all.
The moral of the story is, don’t chance it. A DUI charge may affect you for the rest of your life. If you have been arrested for a DUI, don’t feel like you are the only person who has gone through this; you are not the first and I guarantee you, you won’t be the last. Let’s work together to beat your DUI charge. The lawyers at my office are available 24/7 and are happy to provide free legal advice.
