Some people in Arizona might think that it takes some very serious circumstances to end up having their driving privileges taken away. This certainly can be true, but the fact of the matter is that it is easier than most people might ever think to find oneself facing a suspended or a revoked driver’s license. When your license is suspended, you lose the right to drive for a certain time, but your original license may ultimately be activated. With a license revocation, you can only regain the right to drive by obtaining an entirely new license.
As explained by the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles, reinstating your driver’s license after either a suspension or a revocation requires you to apply for reinstatement and meet certain eligibility criteria as outlined by the DMV. You may have had your license suspended for simply being unable to pay a fine from a traffic ticket. In this case, you would apply for reinstatement after the suspension period. If your license was suspended due to a more serious offense, like a drunk driving charge, you may also have to file an SR-22.
You may only apply for reinstatement after a revocation if you have gone at least one year with no other violations, have paid all fines associated with other violations and have no active suspensions or revocations in other states.
