ASU is Taking an Unjust Position on Underage Drinking
Tempe police are cracking down hard on under age drinking and disruptive partying in the ASU area. With the help of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and an $80,000 grant from the Governor, Tempe plan to send out patrol units to neighborhoods to find underage drinkers at house parties before they get behind the wheel. Tempe Underage Drinking and loud music has always been a problem with many noise complaints coming in each weekend.
Preventing DUIs is the main goal, but the charges most likely to be given out during these patrols are Minor in Consumption and Minor in Possession of Alcohol. Students under the age of 21 need to understand the ramifications of an MIP and MIC. These charges are misdemeanors and will stay on their record forever.
