ToggleNo one enjoys getting pulled over by police and issued a traffic ticket. However, attempting to ignore said ticket or failing to make a timely payment on it could lead to even more problems.
Failure to handle traffic tickets might lead to penalties that can seriously impact your ability to live your life.
Potential suspension of license
The Arizona Department of Transportation takes a look at the penalties associated with ignoring a traffic ticket. The type of penalty a person may face will depend on the nature of the ticket in question.
If a driver refuses to pay a ticket or show up in court on the appointed date and time, they cannot renew their driver’s license once it expires.
On top of that, the court may even order a suspension of a driver’s current license. This means that even though their license is not expired, they cannot legally drive on it. Signing a traffic ticket during a traffic stop acts as a promise to show to court if a person decides to dispute the ticket, so failing to do so is a breach of agreement.
What happens if you drive on a suspended license?
First of all, failure to pay a traffic ticket could actually result in an individual’s car getting impounded. In that case, a driver cannot even consider driving on their suspended license.
However, if caught driving on a suspended or revoked license, drivers can face mandatory time in jail and fines of $5,000 or more, depending on the offense number.
