Although I represent clients charged with DUI all over the state of Arizona, I represent several clients who have been arrested and are facing a DUI charge. People all over the country associate Scottsdale with drinking and partying. Because of its popularity, and somewhat negative connotation for wild behavior, Scottsdale police are constantly patrolling Old Town Scottsdale for anyone who may be driving under the influence of alcohol. Scottsdale sponsors what is called a “DUI Task Force.” This means that because so many people drink and drive in the area, they have to invite police officers from across the entire valley to assist in investigating and arresting people for DUI.
One of the most common remarks I hear from clients when they have been arrested for a DUI is how polite and professional the arresting officer was. Somehow, they interpret the officer’s polite mannerisms as some for of indication that they must have done well on the field sobriety tests. Scottsdale police officers are incredibly intelligent. They are hand selected to work in the DUI unit – essentially, these officers are Scottsdale’s best and brightest. They know that the friendlier they are, the more information they can elicit concerning alcohol consumption and admitting to driving under the influence of alcohol.
I guarantee you, although the officer may have been friendly, he did not do you any favors in the police report, and despite what he may tell you, I have never in my career seen an office put in a good word for one of my clients with the prosecutor or the judge. Because Scottsdale is one of the strictest municipalities on DUI’s, it is essential that you are represented by a lawyer who not only is experienced with DUI defense, but an attorney who has a good working relationship with Scottsdale prosecutors and judges. If you have been arrested for a DUI contact a DUI defense lawyer at my law firm to schedule a free consultation.
